Value to Company, colleagues, and Society at large

As promised, the last post on my #35Years@hitachienergyandABB is on "Value to Company, colleagues, and Society at large". Bear with me, it is tad longer than usual ???? In my 35th working year with @hitachienergy and #ABB, what can be more celebratory than acknowledging the work that changed the course of my career and added immense value to my life and to the organization's objectives?

1st November 1987: I started as a graduate engineer trainee in Sales for communication systems at ABB, with South India as my first region to handle. What a tremendous leap in my professional experience! Seven years later, while deployed to Switzerland for my first one-year international training, I had a crush course on work and cultural nuances and building cross-border solid relationships. Another year later, back in India, the latest technology of the moment - microwave and fiber optics communication – got me into its swirl. This gave me insights into customers beyond utilities, rich on-site experience, and service teams' challenges. I still feel indebted to my managers and colleagues for empowering my younger self with the various selling concepts and details of winning customers' trust while being mindful of essential aspects like margin calculations. I learned a great deal from veterans of our organization about giving that 'wow' effect and closing the deal. That first decade was learning the ropes, making friends, and preparing the ground for more significant roles. The journey continued in the second decade when I joined ABB in Switzerland I initially managed the Asian market, switched to the Middle East, and visited Iraq in the late 1999. Developing markets in the Middle East was a unique experience. This decade was about expanding wings and footprints to different markets, bringing new learnings to the table, contributing to the company's goals, developing younger talents. In 2012 I was assigned a more significant role of leading a business Unit's Marketing and Sales (M&S) organization, while exploring new markets with a dedicated team. I moved on to the Power Grids M&S (Now #HitachiEnergy) team, leading account management & white-collar productivity. We also established the tender competence centre for M&S in India, led the transformation of the small country model for M&S, and contributing to transformation programs such as Power Up. In the most recent couple of years, I have been part of the Global M&S Team in Hitachi Energy, supporting the M&S transition, establishing the customer connect centres, and leading the governance of Industry Network Leader network and account management. I look forward to developing the next phase of the Go-to-Market function with the young team, growing channels, and establishing the sustainability workstream for M&S. Thanks all for the journey so far, wherein you all have contributed in one way or another to my development! Thirty-five years is a long time, and naming every person would be difficult, but indeed you all have given some 'wind' into the sails of my career with your 'renewable' energy. Thanks for reading and following these posts ???? This is more to share my two cents of inspiration, learnings and experience with the larger audience who might be on a similar journey. My motto will always stay: "The only constraint on growth is our attitude"; and for people in sales: "I never sold a deal, but customers bought it." In conclusion: "Develop yourself, but also develop your colleagues. Learning should never stop." I look forward enjoying my journey, which never stops being excited given the eenergy transition, sustainability focus, and all the dynamics happening! Let`s keep going on! #35Years@hitachienergyandABB
