November 1st marks my 35 years at HBB/ABB/Hitachi Energy. It may look like a long time, three and a half decades, but it all went in a flash to me. I am genuinely overwhelmed today as I recollect my memories, the lessons learned, the highs and lows, and the bonds I forged. This has been the cornerstone journey of my life. It was not just work that happened. It made me who I am today.
It would only be justified if I deconstruct these 35 years concerning different aspects of my life at #hitachienergy and #ABB, unravel the learnings and key takeaways, and share them with you. The foremost and most satisfying aspect of my time at #hitachienergy & #abb has been the relationships I made, the friendships that happened out of work relationships, colleagues and customers who became friends, and mentors at work who turned into trusted confidants. Starting from my first assignment in India’s Southern region to when I moved to Switzerland for training for the first time, it was a daunting challenge and a cultural change for me. Thanks to the team for giving me a warm welcome and making that one year feel like a breeze for me. Eventually I moved to Europe that was followed by my first visit to the Philippines. During this phase, my work allowed me to visit unique and intriguing places worldwide. I traveled to Iraq in late 1999 and was assigned to develop the Middle East market in Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, and Iraq. This trip gave me the unique opportunity to forge a bond with my customers, who later became my long-time friends. After that, I shifted gears and moved up the ladder, but one thing has stayed constant - connecting and understanding more about people, both at and beyond work. I am immensely grateful to everyone who worked with me over these 35 years, touched my life in any way, and made me a better professional and person. Every professional relationship at #hitachienergy and #ABB turned into friendship. That speaks volumes about the warm and rich culture of the companies I work for, which emphasizes building strong human relationships. If I had worked with anyone of you in these 35 years, please drop a comment and say hi. I will post more on my #35yearsHitachiHitachi EnergyandABB soon. However, I can never forget my Father’s advice at the start of my journey in the corporate world “Never look at the watch and work.” one aspect of my work life, and further in my personal growth, has been the cultural changes I faced and embraced and how those changes changed the person I am today.
