Moving along memory lane as I mark and celebrate my 35 years at #hitachienergy & #ABB.

However, I can never forget my Father’s advice at the start of my journey in the corporate world “Never look at the watch and work.” one aspect of my work life, and further in my personal growth, has been the cultural changes I faced and embraced and how those changes changed the person I am today.

Stepping out of India and moving to Switzerland, after being in the organization for about 11 years, was the first big step for me professionally and personally. The cultural diversity I came across taught me so much about the world and how corporate culture is made rich only by the people who become a part of it from different walks of life. The first tricky bit was being a vegetarian and teetotaller in a foreign land. But thanks to a wonderful team and colleagues from different nationalities, it wasn’t a significant roadblock. I learned to go with the flow and enjoy the new life in front of me. Working late hours with the team in a different work setting in India and abroad, but we were united by the love of 'Vada Pav” or “pizza dinners” while completing tenders during extended hours. Handling Asia and Middle east markets taught me to adjust to a new work culture, and where I made some long-standing friendships with customers. Later with a broader global responsibility, I had a chance to experience the cultures of different parts of this fascinating planet. One of the key learnings for me is to be frank and straightforward - irrespective of any culture- to create an impact and win people's trust. My #35Years@hitachienergyandABB has enriched not just my career but also my life experience. Those 35 years exposed me to different cultures in more than 40+ countries across four continents, taught me to adjust and be accommodating, and be more conscious of the world around me. I will encapsulate my work experience of my #35Years@hitachienergyandABB in the final wrap-up post soon.
