Celebrating Culture, Community, and Joy: A Journey of Festivities

Life is a tapestry of moments, and it's the threads of culture, community, and celebration that add vibrant hues to this beautiful mosaic. One such thread in my life is the grand festival of celebrations.

Occurring in the 11th month of the Hindu calendar, usually falling in late September or early October in the English calendar, these festivities have been more than just religious observances; they've been a lifelong passion and an avenue to celebrate the spirit of togetherness.

My journey with these celebrations began at the age of 14 in Mumbai, where I took on the responsibility of organizing the festivities in our society. Little did I know that this experience would shape my future in more ways than one.

In 1999, I embarked on a new adventure, relocating to Switzerland. Alongside friends, we decided to continue the tradition of celebrations in our new home. Thus, the vibrant celebration found a new home in Baden, Switzerland.

Over the years, our celebrations have grown exponentially, with participants hailing not only from India but also from various corners of the world. What makes these festivities truly special is the fusion of cultures and the unbridled joy they bring.

The celebrations are characterized by traditional dances like Rasa and Garba, originating from the Indian state of Gujarat. Men and women, dressed in colorful attire, come together to perform these dances with great enthusiasm. The women don ghagra-cholis adorned with shining beads and mirrors, while the men sport Kafni-Pyjamas, a Rajasthani costume. The dancers form a circle, swaying to the beats of traditional songs, and the air is filled with the rhythm of Garba and Dandiya-Raas, a dance played with wooden sticks.

These celebrations are not just festivals; they're a spectacle of pure happiness and an auspicious occasion. They bring people from diverse backgrounds together, fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

But these celebrations are just one thread in the rich tapestry of my life. Throughout the year, I am an active member of the Indian Association in Baden, engaging in a myriad of activities, from picnics

Thanks to Ketan Parikh my partner on the journey of RasGarba Association Switzerland. The support and guidance of individuals like Maya Dave, Harshida and Rasik Rayvadera, Peenal Asar Nitesh Gandhi, Amit Shukla, Dhaval Patel, Late Jayendra Amin, and Late Pravin Bhai Shah have been instrumental in making these celebrations a reality. They have not only enriched the cultural tapestry of our community but have also left an indelible mark on our hearts. Their dedication and commitment to preserving and sharing our traditions have been truly inspiring.
